I tried counting macros before by myself and was trying to stick to paleo principles and it was hard, I wasn’t sure how to do it and what ratios to shoot for so I needed guidance in those areas. I lost 20lbs but didn’t lose strength and gained endurance. Now that I’m on my 4th month its become a lifestyle, I don’t really even have to think of it. By the second week it already started being easy.”

A whole new perspective
Lindsey is a CrossFit Games Team Athlete, whose goal is to qualify as individual in 2017. Lindsey wanted to lean out while improving on her weaknesses in the off season.
“When I started working with Matt and getting on board with counting my macros, I was skeptical, nervous (seemed like math was involved ?), and I was already worrying I wouldn’t stick with it. I was wrong. Matt has changed my perspective and my respect for food, supplements, and all things nutrition. I can’t thank Josh Gallegos enough for introducing me to Matt a few months ago, and I look forward to continuing to work with him this season. I have a ton more to learn and some glaring “weaknesses” I need to tackle in my nutrition as well as my training, but I wouldn’t want to be working with anyone else!”

“They say you can’t accomplish as much alone as you can with help. Thats was my big thing. When Im going through a diet phase I start to feel lonely and low, and thats when by myself I would cheat or binge. With my Beyond Macros coach, he was always there for me to check in and show me everything was OK, I’m probably just going through sugar withdrawals or something! So, he helped me by letting me know someone else was there, someone was in my corner cheering me on and letting me know everything is going to be OK.”

“I had somebody to hold me accountable for what I was eating, and had to track it. In the first week tracking what I normally eat, I realized, ‘Wow, I eat a lot of carbs and very little protein!’ Even though I thought I was eating healthy foods having a coach helped me realized that I wasn’t eating enough food, and that I wasn’t eating the right food.”

“I work several jobs and I’m still in my doctorate program, so finding time to organize and plan food was always difficult. How am I supposed to have time to go to the grocery store, cook enough food, and make sure its ready when I need it and plan ahead? I was always busy, running around and that meant I had to resort to last minute options, or I just had none available to me. So, planning ahead and having the time to organize was hard.
Even though my obstacles didn’t go away, I learned ways to work around them. Kyle Forrest’s first child was born 2-weeks before beginning his program. He started working with Beyond Macros and a gymnastics coach around the same time. He started at 208.7lbs, finished 196.lbs#. Dexa scan results show him dropping from 201lbs and 22.4% body fat with 147lbs muscle to 198lbs with 19% body fat and 151lbs of muscle!

This was the longest I've stuck with a food plan
I thought I was going to be hungry. I hate that feeling, but I found this program to be quite the opposite. Sometimes I couldn’t eat all the food. Anything I’ve done in the past with a calorie deficit I would always feel hungry, and now I rarely felt hungry.
Now that I have the knowledge about macronutrients, I look at the nutrition information on all food labels. It’s given me a good guide as to things that I definitely will try to avoid, and things that I will have in moderation. I don’t feel deprived, I don’t feel like there’s anything I can’t have. Making smart choices will stick with me.

Initially I had habits that were really bad and I didn’t even realize it. “One of the biggest things BM helped me address was finding weaknesses in my current system, and addressing them and then breaking down concepts that were difficult into small, easy, attainable steps. For example, preparing all of my protein for the week first thing on Sunday so that there’s no reason for me not to have it for the week. That’s just one thing taken care of, and then if there’s time I can prepare things like carbs and veggies. Before, I would try to do all of it at once, and it wasn’t always possible.”

Before I came to Paradiso, I was definitely the girl who was nervous about “bulking” from Crossfit due to my already bulky body, and nervous about consuming large amounts of protein. By the time the nutrition challenge came along, I was ALL in because after a few months skating by in the classes, I saw that all of the strongest/fastest women and coaches had these beautiful,strong, lean bodies with incredible muscle definition. And I decided that if they can do it, that I can have similar results if I try hard enough. I also decided that I needed to lose the mindset that I need to be “skinny” because the truth is, I never have been and likely will never be and I am now 100% okay with looking strong and fit over skinny. I already see so many major differences in myself. I am fitting into clothes that I haven’t worn in years, I don’t feel that I need to cover every inch of my body, and I have a real relationship with my body now where I am so grateful for how strong it is and what I can do with this body if push came to shove.”-Genevieve.

I never work candy into my numbers because it’s a real problem food for me. Yesterday I worked 12 mini Cadbury eggs into my afternoon snack. I always feel powerless over them So I don’t have them except for when I’m not tracking. I decided to try yesterday. I made them last about 2 hours and enjoyed them like no other time I can remember. The sky didn’t fall in and I didn’t fall off the rails. ?”
